Shakira Says Romance Has No Space As She Focuses On Family And Career

Shakira is not looking for love right now, and she is perfectly fine with that. The global pop star has opened up about her personal life, saying romance is simply not something she has time or space for at this stage of her journey.

The Colombian singer, who turned 49 this year, made the candid revelation in an interview with The Times newspaper. Her words were honest, warm, and surprisingly refreshing in a world that often expects celebrities to always be chasing the next relationship.

‘My Plate Is Quite Full’

Shakira did not hold back when asked about her love life. “No romance for me for now. There’s no space or time in my life for that. My plate is quite full,” she told the publication.

It has been four years since she split from Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué, the father of her two sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11. Since that breakup, Shakira has kept her romantic life private and focused on what matters most to her: her children and her music.

“My kids are my priority. And my career,” she said. “Strangely enough, I’m in love with my career like I’ve never been in my life. I’m enjoying my time alone as well.”

It is a statement that speaks volumes. For a woman who went through one of the most public breakups in recent memory, choosing herself and her peace feels like a powerful move.

A Dark Chapter That Changed Everything

Shakira did not shy away from talking about the pain she went through after her split from Piqué. She described it as the “darkest moment” of her life, and the timing made it even harder.

While she was dealing with the end of her long-term relationship, her father William was hospitalized after a serious fall. Two major personal crises hit her at the same time, and she had to find a way to keep going.

“I was living through the darkest moment, when I saw the dissolution of my family. The family that I had dreamt to keep forever,” Shakira said with raw honesty.

But rather than letting that darkness define her, she used it to grow. “I’ve been through so much pain, but it has made me perhaps in an unforeseen way a wiser person, or stronger, at least,” she added.

Resilience, Lessons, and Gratitude

Shakira leaned into a universal truth that many people know but few talk about openly. She said hardship has a way of teaching you things that good times simply cannot.

“They say that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and it is true. It’s amazing to learn that humans have a resilience that we can resort to at any moment in our lives,” she shared.

She went even further, crediting the painful people and moments in her life as some of her greatest teachers. “The people who have made me suffer because they have become my masters who have taught me lessons, very valuable lessons,” Shakira said.

It is a mature perspective, one that goes beyond bitterness and lands somewhere closer to peace.

“Life sometimes can be a b****, but it’s also beautiful and made of light and shadows,” she added. “So, I thank life for every single moment, the bright ones and the dark ones.”

No Bad Blood With Piqué

Despite everything she went through, Shakira holds no grudge against Gerard Piqué. In fact, she expressed genuine gratitude for the role he played in her life, particularly as the father of her children.

“I will always have that gratitude in my heart for the father of my kids, and for turning me into the mother that I am today,” she said.

It is a quiet but meaningful statement. Shakira is not painting her past as a tragedy. She is framing it as a chapter that shaped the woman she is today, a mother, an artist, and someone who has clearly found her footing again.

Right now, for Shakira, that is more than enough.
