Best Amazon Prime Crime Series

Fortunately, you don’t have to pull out your detective hats this time. We’ve put together a list of the best police crime series on Amazon Prime for you to watch right now.

1. Bosch:

  • Release Date: February 6, 2014 – Present
  • No. of Seasons: 6
  • No. of episodes: 60
  • IMDb: 8.4/10

With Titus Welliver in the lead role, it’s a convincingly dirty, cynical series without the glitz and ridiculous theatrics of NCIS and the like. It’s old-fashioned policing with a lot of political harassment.

Each season deals with its own big case, but there is one overarching case where Bosch is investigating a cold case: the murder of his mother when he was a child. Bosch has no plans to redefine crime novels, but the pace is perfect for a good old series evening when the threads of the individual cases come together. It is an excellent crime drama that any fan of the genre will enjoy.

2. Homeland:

  • Release Date: October 2, 2011 – April 2
  • No. of Seasons: 8
  • No. of episodes: 96
  • IMDb: 8.3/10

The premise of the television series is simple – a war hero and prisoner of war returning from Iraq is welcomed in the US as a prodigal son, but a female CIA officer suspects him of being turned over.

The series not only gives us an insight into the work of the secret service to fight international terrorism and crime, but also takes us on a paranoia trip as the character of the main character Clair Danes suffers from mental illness. There are few shows with plot twists as surprising and mind-boggling as Homeland, so you better hold on.

3. Criminal Minds:

  • Release Date: September 22, 2005 – Febru…
  • No. of Seasons: 15
  • No. of episodes: 324
  • IMDb: 8.1/10

Criminal Minds is done so brilliantly that the interplay of characters never made a difference. What made the show so great was the thought process that viewers had to go through to figure out who the killer was, but also why he / she might have done it.

The job of the FBI profilers was to get into the minds of the criminals and find out what drove them to do what they did. It was intense in every way and felt like a member of the cast for at least an hour a week.

4. The Night Manager:

  • Release Date: 21 February – 27 March 2016
  • No. of episodes: 6
  • IMDb: 8.1/10

Tom Hiddleston stars in this British series based on the 1993 novel of the same name by John le Carré. The Night Manager is a six-part series.

It tells the story of a hotel night manager and former British soldier named Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), who is recruited by an intelligence agent named Angela Burr (Olivia Colman) to spy on an arms dealer named Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). The series has won 11 awards including 2 Emmys and 3 Golden Globes.

5. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan:

  • Release Date: August 31, 2018 – Present
  • No. of Seasons: 2
  • No. of episodes: 16
  • IMDb: 8.1/10

Even if Jack Ryan is not on the level of prestige series like Breaking Bad, Mad Men or even The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it is a very solid series for fans of thrillers. In fact, every episode of Jack Ryan is almost like a mini Jack Ryan movie of sorts, with locations and settings varying wildly throughout the series.

The always sympathetic John Krasinski fits perfectly into the role of the title character and Wendell Pierce brings a welcome complexity to the role of James Greer, Ryan’s boss at the CIA. The season one storyline is a mix of Homeland and 24 when Ryan is chasing an Islamic terrorist, and while another way of seeing it, it’s quite a compelling story arc with tremendous production value.

6. Bones:

  • Release Date: September 13, 2005
  • No. of Seasons: 12
  • No. of episodes: 246
  • IMDb: 7.8/10

If you’re looking for a simple, predictable, yet thoroughly entertaining crime comedy, then Bones is for you. And there are a dozen seasons to work your way through. As is typical of the genre, each episode is about a new FBI case involving human remains and the special agent working with a forensic anthropologist to solve it.

The stories are also immersed in the personal lives of the main characters. Loosely based on the life of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs and her novels, the series is an interesting look at the intersections and debates between science and empirical evidence and belief and intuition.

7. Alex Rider:

  • Release Date: 4 June 2020 – Present
  • No. of Seasons: 1
  • No. of episodes: 8
  • IMDb: 7.5/10

Adult fans of Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider series will enjoy this surprisingly gritty take on the teenage spy. After the suspicious death of his uncle, Alex Rider (played by Otto Farrant) is reluctantly recruited as an undercover agent for MI6.

The series cleverly takes the second novel, Point Blanc, as its starting point and sees Alex infiltrating a sinister elite school run by a Hitler-worshiping director who has an evil plan to reshape the world in his own image. The series mixes Bond-style action with a dash of sci-fi and teenage drama, but doesn’t overlook the ethical absurdity of the whole premise that a spy agency is hiring a child.

8. Blind Spot:

  • Release Date: September 21, 2015
  • No. of Seasons: 5
  • No. of episodes: 100
  • IMDb: 7.4/10

If you like police series, you’ve probably seen Blindspot too, but if you haven’t, the series is definitely worth watching. Blindspot is about an unusual ally helping the FBI solve crimes, in this case a tattooed, amnesiac woman known only as Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) who was found in a duffel bag in Times Square.

Similar to the series The Blacklist and the question “Who is Reddington?”, The series is a lot of fun deciphering Jane’s mysterious identity. It’s a kinky and action-packed conspiracy thriller with a weird sense of humor.

9. SWAT:

  • Release Date: November 2, 2017 – Present
  • No. of Seasons: 4
  • No. of episodes: 80
  • IMDb: 7/10

After leaving the hit show Criminal Minds, Shemar Moore made his way to SWAT to lead the elite team and lead a new action-packed show. SWAT is everything police fans want to see again. The series focuses on a group of police officers using the best technique in Los Angeles to track down criminals.

While the storylines aren’t that deep, SWAT is geared more towards action. As for the plot, it got better in season 2.

10. Absentia:

  • Release Date: September 25, 2017 – Present
  • No. of Seasons: 3
  • No. of episodes: 30
  • IMDb: 5.8/10

The series tells the story of FBI agent Emily Byrne (Stana Katic), who disappears while trying to track down a serial killer in Boston. She is eventually pronounced dead in absentia, which is another way of saying that she was legally deemed dead but is found six years later.

With no memory of what happened to her, she returns home and finds herself the prime suspect in a series of new murders. It’s a series that is sure to keep you in suspense!
