How Your Bachelor Thesis Will Be a Hit: At the beginning of the course it is still a long way off, but over time the specter draws inexorably closer: we are talking about the bachelor thesis. But you don’t have to despair about it, just ask am a student. Because you shouldn’t do everything at once, but can work through the work in several bites. As is so often the case, order is half the battle here.
How Your Bachlor Thesis Will Be a Hit!
We explain how you can use 7 simple steps to get a red thread into the chaos of your head and your scientific work.
1st Step: Find The Topic of Your Bachelor Thesis!
The first step is the most important, basically laying the foundation stone for your work. The topic should be in the area of your field of study and, if possible, encompass an area that has not yet been fully explored. It often helps to go through the seminars and lectures you have already completed in your head: Did any of the topics dealt with there particularly impress you? Often, subjects with a so-called research gap are suggested by the lecturers. When choosing a suggested topic, make sure that you are genuinely interested in it. Nothing is worse than dealing with a topic for several months that doesn’t grab you.
When you have a rough idea of which direction to go, you can look around for suitable literature. The university library and online databases of your university will become your best friends, because specialist literature can be quite expensive. The more up-to-date the material, the better. During the first literature research one often discovers interesting aspects that can be deepened in the course of the work.
2nd Step: Topic Disposition & Choice of Supervisor
You now have a rough topic and there is literature too. Now you have to find out whether and how your ideas can be implemented. For many it is a problem to narrow down the topic so that the work has a realistic scale. This is what your supervisor is there for. First your university has to approve the disposition of the topic, then you will be assigned a supervisor. If you have a favorite lecturer, you can also express preferences about this. Who, in the worst case, of interpersonal differences with his or her supervisor, it is best to contact the program director. She can usually mediate and, if in doubt, assign a new supervisor to you.
3rd Step: Formulation of the Specific Topic of the Bachelor Thesis
You now have a topic, a supervisor and literature. A lot has already been done. The next step is a face-to-face meeting: with the help of the supervisor’s knowledge, you can now specify your topic and work out research questions that you will work on in your work.
4th Step: Formal Criteria of The Bachelor Thesis
Would you like to get started right now? Wait a moment, take a look beforehand at which formal criteria you have to adhere to. This may be annoying at first, but in the end it saves valuable time because you save yourself tedious repairs afterward. There are often templates that you can use for the layout.
The most important thing is to adhere to the citation rules and to decide on a citation style (American or German) and to stick to it in the course of the work. The gendering of a text is now expected at most universities. There are two options here: Either you stick to it strictly or you include a gender declaration at the beginning of your work. This explains that the use of the masculine form in the following work should be understood as gender-neutral.
5th Step: Paging Through Literature
How you deal with literature is important. If you read something and write directly on it, you run the risk of copying the original text. If someone can prove to you that you have worked with the copy-paste principle without citing the source, then your work will be rated as unsatisfactory, even if it happened accidentally. It is therefore advisable to incorporate intermediate steps. The best thing to do is to write down keywords while reading, close the book and use the notes to formulate your own text. In addition, do not forget to always immediately note the respective source – especially of course for direct quotations, but also for paraphrases. Afterward, this is next to impossible.
Also important in this context: the plagiarism check. A plagiarism case can have fatal consequences. If you want to be on the safe side, you should definitely consider a plagiarism check before submitting your work. In our magazine, we’ll tell you what this is all about and what you need to consider.
6th Step: Write, Write, Write
Now you can finally get started and it’s time to write, write, write. To begin with, create a table of contents using the concept you have made for yourself. Now you have defined a framework in which you can move flexibly. You don’t always have to stick to the chronological order, you can also jump back and forth between the points, add something here and add a footnote there. By the way, explanations of terms are always a good introduction to the subject. In this way, you promote understanding of the technical terms with which you work and make your work more understandable and thus more accessible to a wider audience.
7th Step: Print, Hand in Bachelor Thesis And Celebrate Properly
Done! When the last paragraph has been written and the work has been proofread by an outside person (this is very important!), You can officially end the mental work. Last but not least, it is now time to print out the work and have it bound. It is not very advisable to do the whole thing at the last minute, as your fellow students may come up with the same idea and it will lead to a jam in your trusted printer shop. If you are trying so hard, the work should be presented in correspondingly high quality. And that’s exactly what our masterprint vouchers are for.
