‎Best Superhero Series on Netflix: Netflix carries over 60 superhero shows right now. Some are big Marvel productions. Some are quiet gems nobody talks about enough. Some are grounded. Some are completely insane. The range is unlike any other platform.

Superhero Series on Netflix

This list covers the five that genuinely stand out.

1. Daredevil

  • Seasons: 3
  • Years: 2015 to 2018
  • Genre: Action, Crime, Drama
  • IMDb Rating: 8.6
Best Superhero Series on Netflix

Start here. This is the best superhero show Netflix has ever made. Charlie Cox plays blind lawyer Matt Murdock by day. At night he puts on a mask and fights crime. He does not fly. He does not shoot lasers from his eyes. He gets hit. He bleeds. He gets up. The show treats its superhero premise with real seriousness. The fight choreography changed what people expected from television action. Season 1’s hallway fight is still referenced in articles written today. Vincent D’Onofrio plays Wilson Fisk, a villain who is soft-spoken, intelligent, and terrifying all at once. Season 3 is as good as anything Marvel has ever put on screen. Three seasons. Zero bad episodes. If you watch one show from this list, watch this one.

2. The Umbrella Academy

  • Seasons: 4
  • Years: 2019 to 2024
  • Genre: Action, Dark Comedy, Sci-Fi
  • IMDb Rating: 8.0

Nobody makes superhero television quite like this. The Umbrella Academy follows seven siblings, all born on the same day to mothers who were not pregnant that morning. A billionaire adopts them all. He trains them. He raises them coldly. He dies. They come back together and discover the world is about to end. Again. Several times across four seasons. One sibling has no powers at all. One was accidentally sent to the moon as a child and never left. One talks to the dead. The tone is unlike anything else on the platform. It mixes grief and time travel and bad parenting and some genuinely brilliant music choices. It is based on a comic by Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance. Four seasons. Completed in 2024.

3. Jessica Jones

  • Seasons: 3
  • Years: 2015 to 2019
  • Genre: Crime, Noir, Superhero Drama
  • IMDb Rating: 7.9

Jessica Jones does not feel like a superhero show. It feels like a psychological crime drama that happens to have a woman in it who can lift a car. Krysten Ritter plays Jones as broken, brilliant, and deeply reluctant. She has super strength and near-invulnerability. She does not wear a costume. She drinks whisky. She takes private investigation cases. She avoids her past. The first season forces her to confront a mind-controlling villain named Kilgrave, played by David Tennant. Kilgrave is charming and horrifying in equal measure. He is one of the best villains in superhero television history. The show explores trauma with honesty. It does not pretend recovery is easy. It does not resolve things neatly. It is very, very good.

4. Supacell

  • Seasons: 2
  • Years: 2024 to present
  • Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama, Superhero
  • IMDb Rating: 7.5
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 100%

This is the most exciting new superhero show on the platform. Supacell comes from UK filmmaker Rapman and is set entirely in South London. Five young Black people suddenly develop superpowers. They do not know each other. One man is trying to save his fiancée. One woman can move objects with her mind. The show takes its time. It builds character before it builds action. The superhero element is linked to sickle cell disease, which runs through the families of all five characters. It is socially aware without being preachy. It is cool without trying too hard. Season 1 holds a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 is in production.

5. The Flash

  • Seasons: 9
  • Years: 2014 to 2023
  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
  • IMDb Rating: 7.5

The Flash is the most fun superhero show on this list. Barry Allen is a forensic scientist. A particle accelerator explodes. Lightning strikes him. He wakes up in a coma. He wakes out of it with the ability to run at the speed of sound. He works at a police precinct by day. He stops metahumans by night. The show never takes itself too seriously. It is fast-paced, funny, and full of warmth. The supporting cast is excellent. Grant Gustin holds it together with real likability across nine seasons. The first four seasons are exceptional television. The final stretch drags in places but still delivers. It ran from 2014 to 2023 and became one of the longest superhero series ever made for television.
