Three ways to score a free kickA free kick 25 metres out with a defensive wall 9.15 metres from the ball. Option 1 goes over the wall into the near-post top corner, option 2 curls around the wall into the far corner, option 3 is a low shot under the jumping wall.3 Ways To Score A Free KickSeen from above: 25 m out, wall 9.15 m from the ballKeeperWall9.15 m1231 Over the wall, near post2 Curl round the wall, far corner3 Low, under the jumping wall

About The Game

About This Free Kick Game

This free kick game puts you behind the ball for a direct free kick. Every shot is from a different spot, between 18 and 30 metres out, with a defensive wall exactly 9.15 metres away and a goalkeeper ready to dive. Under Law 13, a goal can be scored directly from a direct free kick, so it’s you against the wall and the keeper.

The ball follows a simple physics model with gravity, curve and wind. The wall jumps, so a low driven shot can skid underneath. The goalkeeper reacts to your shot, but curved shots are harder for them to read. Choose Easy to learn, Medium for a fair test, or Hard for long-range free kicks in the wind. Play the free kick game’s 10-shot challenge to set a high score, or practise as long as you like.

Top tip: the keeper stands away from the wall. Aim for the corners, use curve, and the free kick game rewards top-corner goals with bonus points.

Free Kick Tips For The Pitch

  • Pick your target before your run-up and don’t change your mind.
  • For curl, strike the side of the ball with the inside of your foot.
  • For a dipping shot, strike through the middle with your laces and a short follow-through.
  • Keep your head over the ball to stop it flying over the bar.
  • Watch the wall: if it always jumps, try a low shot underneath.
  • Practise from the same spots every week to build consistency.
  • Place the ball with the valve facing you for a cleaner strike.
  • Play the free kick game to learn angles, then try them in training.
FAQ

Free Kick Game FAQ

How Do I Play The Free Kick Game?

Drag or tap on the goal to aim, set the curve with the slider, then press Shoot and press again to stop the power bar in the green zone. You have 10 free kicks in the challenge to score as many goals as you can.

Is The Free Kick Game Free?

Yes. The free kick game is completely free, needs no download or sign-up, and works on phones, tablets and computers.

How Do I Curl The Ball?

Move the curve slider left or right before you shoot. The dotted line shows roughly how the ball will bend. Curling the ball also makes it harder for the keeper to read your shot.

How Do I Shoot Under The Wall?

Aim very low, close to the ground. The ball is driven along the ground and can skid under the wall when the defenders jump, just like in real football.

Why Does The Keeper Save My Shots?

The keeper stands on the opposite side to the wall and moves towards your shot. Aim close to the corners, use curve to fool them, and try the near-post side over the wall.

What Is The Green Zone On The Power Bar?

It’s the perfect power. Inside the zone your shot goes where you aimed. Too much power and the ball flies higher, too little and it drops into the wall.

Can I Play With A Keyboard?

Yes. Use the arrow keys to aim, A and D to change curve, and Space or Enter to shoot and stop the power bar.

How Far Is The Wall From The Ball?

Under Law 13 of the Laws of the Game, opponents must be at least 9.15 m (10 yards) from the ball at a free kick. The free kick game places the wall at exactly that distance.

Is My High Score Saved?

Yes. Your best 10-shot challenge score for each difficulty is saved in your browser on this device.

Can I Share My Score?

Yes. Copy your score to challenge friends, or download a GlobeHour certificate PDF with your rank, stats and shot map.
