Lizzo Fires Back at Fan Who Accused Her of Shading Taylor Swift

Lizzo is not here for false rumors. The singer jumped online to shut down claims that she had been talking negatively about Taylor Swift, and she made her feelings very clear.

On May 23, Lizzo took to X to respond after a post started circulating that compared streaming numbers between Taylor Swift’s latest album and Lizzo’s 2025 mixtape. The post put the two artists’ figures side by side, and things quickly got messy in the comments.

The post that triggered the drama showed a comparison between Taylor’s recent project and Lizzo’s mixtape, The Life Of A Showgirl. The numbers listed were: “MY FACE HURTS FROM SMILING, 4.005M” against “ICEMAN + MAID OF HONOUR + HABIBTI, 683k.” The post was shared alongside a clip from Lizzo’s STFU music video. Lizzo saw it and was genuinely confused about what point the person was trying to make. She responded simply by asking, “Can someone explain what this means?”

That is when one X user decided to bring Taylor Swift into the mix, replying, “It means all that s*** talking you did about Tay finally caught up to you.”

Lizzo fired back quickly and directly. She wrote, “Are you well? First of all I have never talked s*** about Taylor Swift.” She did not stop there. Lizzo went on to address the wider accusation, making it clear that she has never spoken badly about any artist in the industry. “Also while we on the subject I’ve never talked s*** about any artist. Just because I mention an artist by name does not mean I’m talking s***. Grow tf up pls,” she wrote.

It was a sharp but fair response. Lizzo drew a clear line between simply mentioning someone and actually shading them, which are two very different things that people online often mix up.

Despite the drama stirred up by social media users, there is no real feud here. Lizzo has publicly shown support for Taylor Swift in the past, and nothing in her recent posts suggested any ill will toward the Opalite singer. The whole situation appeared to stem from a fan-made comparison post that took on a life of its own, as these things often do on X. One comment snowballed into a rumor, and Lizzo had to step in and address it herself.

It is not the first time a celebrity has been forced to respond to something that had no real basis. Social media has a way of turning small moments into big stories very fast, especially when two massively popular artists are involved.

What stands out most from Lizzo’s response is how straightforward she was. She did not get dramatic. She did not go back and forth for hours. She said what she needed to say, corrected the record, and moved on.

Lizzo released her mixtape earlier in 2025, and while the streaming numbers in the post were lower than Taylor’s, that comparison was never a fair or meaningful one to begin with. Taylor Swift is currently one of the biggest selling artists on the planet, and comparing any artist to her figures is a stretch no matter who it is.

Lizzo’s catalog speaks for itself. With hits like Rumors, About Damn Time, and Truth Hurts under her belt, she has nothing to prove to anyone online. At the end of the day, there is no beef here. Just a fan post, a misread comment, and a singer who stood up for herself without making it bigger than it needed to be.
