About The Tool

Why Use A Random Team Generator?

Picking teams at five-a-side, training or a school PE lesson can take ages, and the same players often end up together. A random team generator does it fairly in a second. Nobody is picked last, and nobody can say the captain chose their friends.

The GlobeHour Random Team Generator lets you paste a list of names, choose how many teams you want, and split players either fully at random or into balanced teams using a simple 1 to 5 skill number. It can also make sure goalkeepers are spread across the teams, and it picks which team kicks off.

Good to know: when the players don’t divide evenly, the generator keeps team sizes within one player of each other.
The Method

How The Teams Are Picked

OptionWhat Happens
Fully RandomAll names are shuffled with a fair random shuffle, then dealt out one by one to the team with the fewest players.
BalancedPlayers are sorted from strongest to weakest (players with equal skill are shuffled). Each player joins the team with the fewest players and the lowest skill total.
Spread GoalkeepersPlayers marked GK are shared out first, so each team gets one before any team gets two.
Players Per TeamNumber of teams = players ÷ team size, rounded up. Example: 13 players in teams of 5 gives 3 teams of 4, 4 and 5.
Kick-OffOne team is chosen at random to kick off.

Players without a skill number count as 3 (middle) when you choose Balanced. If nobody has a skill number, the teams are picked fully at random.
