Why Use A Random Team Generator?
Picking teams at five-a-side, training or a school PE lesson can take ages, and the same players often end up together. A random team generator does it fairly in a second. Nobody is picked last, and nobody can say the captain chose their friends.
The GlobeHour Random Team Generator lets you paste a list of names, choose how many teams you want, and split players either fully at random or into balanced teams using a simple 1 to 5 skill number. It can also make sure goalkeepers are spread across the teams, and it picks which team kicks off.
How The Teams Are Picked
| Option | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Fully Random | All names are shuffled with a fair random shuffle, then dealt out one by one to the team with the fewest players. |
| Balanced | Players are sorted from strongest to weakest (players with equal skill are shuffled). Each player joins the team with the fewest players and the lowest skill total. |
| Spread Goalkeepers | Players marked GK are shared out first, so each team gets one before any team gets two. |
| Players Per Team | Number of teams = players ÷ team size, rounded up. Example: 13 players in teams of 5 gives 3 teams of 4, 4 and 5. |
| Kick-Off | One team is chosen at random to kick off. |
Players without a skill number count as 3 (middle) when you choose Balanced. If nobody has a skill number, the teams are picked fully at random.
How To Write Player Names
| You Type | The Generator Reads |
|---|---|
| Bilal | Bilal, no skill number |
| Bilal 4 | Bilal, skill 4 |
| Bilal, 4 | Bilal, skill 4 |
| Ali GK | Ali, goalkeeper |
| Ali (GK) 3 | Ali, goalkeeper, skill 3 |
- Skill 5 is your strongest player and skill 1 your weakest.
- Blank lines are ignored, so you can paste a list straight from WhatsApp or a spreadsheet.
- Up to 8 teams can be made, named Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Black and White.
Tips For Fair Football Teams
- Use Balanced mode when skill levels are very mixed.
- Be honest with skill numbers, or ask someone neutral to set them.
- Mark every goalkeeper with GK so they are spread out.
- Rotate goalkeepers if a team doesn’t have one.
- Shuffle again if two very strong players end up together.
- Use coloured bibs that match the team names.
- For a tournament, make 3 or 4 teams and play short games.
- Download the PDF and share it in your group chat before the game.
