What Is An Online Football Scoreboard?
An online football scoreboard is a free digital scoreboard that runs in your web browser. Instead of a whiteboard, a notebook and a stopwatch, you keep the score, run the match clock and record every goal, card and substitution in one place on your phone, tablet or laptop.
This football scoreboard is made for grassroots football: Sunday league games, youth matches, five-a-side, futsal, school sports days, tournaments and charity matches. It keeps time for both halves, shows added time like the professionals, handles extra time and a full penalty shootout, and counts shots, corners, fouls and offsides for each team.
When the match ends, the football scoreboard creates a match report with the final score, scorers, stats and a full timeline, which you can download as a PDF or copy as a short summary for your team chat.

How The Match Clock Works
For a match with 45-minute halves.
| Period | Clock | Event Minutes |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Half | 00:00 to 45:00 | 1′ to 45′, then 45+1′, 45+2’… |
| Half-Time | Stopped | – |
| 2nd Half | 45:00 to 90:00 | 46′ to 90′, then 90+1’… |
| Extra Time | 90:00 to 120:00 | 91′ to 120′ in two 15-minute halves |
| Penalties | Stopped | Kick by kick |
Like on TV, the clock doesn’t stop at 45:00. Once normal time is up, the football scoreboard keeps counting in red as added time, and any goal is recorded as 45+2′ or 90+4′. The referee decides when the half ends, so press Half-Time or Full Time when you hear the whistle.
Typical Football Match Lengths
| Level | Typical Half Length | Match Length |
|---|---|---|
| Adult 11-a-side | 45 minutes | 90 minutes |
| U17–U18 | 45 minutes | 90 minutes |
| U15–U16 | 40 minutes | 80 minutes |
| U13–U14 | 35 minutes | 70 minutes |
| U11–U12 | 30 minutes | 60 minutes |
| U7–U10 | 20–25 minutes | 40–50 minutes |
| Futsal | 20 minutes (stopped clock) | 40 minutes |
These are typical lengths. Youth match lengths and the way they are split (halves or quarters) are set by your league and national association and can change, so always check your league handbook. Pick any half length from 5 to 60 minutes in the football scoreboard.
How A Penalty Shootout Works
- Five each: the teams take turns, with five kicks each.
- Ends early: if one team can’t catch up even by scoring all its remaining kicks, the shootout ends.
- Sudden death: if it is still level after five each, the teams take one kick each until one scores and the other misses.
- Automatic tracking: the football scoreboard shows whose turn it is and announces the winner as soon as the shootout is decided.
The final score is shown with the shootout in brackets, for example 1–1 (4–3 pens), on the board, in the copied summary and in the PDF match report.
Tips For Keeping Score At A Match
- Charge your phone and turn up the brightness before kick-off.
- Set up both teams and colours before the players walk out.
- Start the clock on the referee’s whistle, not before.
- Ask a sub or parent to call out scorers’ names.
- Use the 10-second buttons to match the referee’s watch.
- Connect a laptop to a TV for a big fullscreen display.
- Check the timeline at half-time and fix any mistakes.
- Send the PDF match report to your league after the game.
