How Age Changes A Player’s Value

The age multiplier this calculator uses. Value climbs for young players, peaks in the early twenties and falls sharply after 30.

About The Tool

What Is A Football Transfer Value Calculator?

A football transfer value calculator estimates how much a club might pay to sign a player. Real fees are set by negotiation, but they follow clear patterns: better, younger players on long contracts in strong leagues cost more, while older players near the end of their deals cost much less.

The GlobeHour Football Transfer Value Calculator turns those patterns into a transparent model. You rate the player and choose their situation, and the calculator shows a midpoint value, a realistic fee range, exactly how each factor pushed the value up or down, how the value may change over the next five years, and which changes would raise it the most.

It is useful for fans debating transfer rumours, players and agents thinking about career moves, football managers in video games, and anyone curious about why one player costs ten times more than another.

Good to know: values are shown in euros, the currency used for most international transfer reporting. Your inputs stay in your own browser.
Value Factors

The 9 Factors That Decide Transfer Value

What each factor does in the calculator.

Current Ability

The starting point. Value grows exponentially with ability, so a small jump at the top level adds far more money than the same jump lower down.

Age

Young players carry resale value and years of service ahead. Value peaks in the late teens and early twenties and falls quickly after 30.

Potential

The gap between current ability and potential adds value for players aged 25 and under, with the biggest effect at 21 and younger.

League

Players in richer, stronger leagues command higher fees. The Premier League has the biggest effect in this model.

Position

Goal scorers and creative attackers usually cost more than defenders, and goalkeepers usually cost the least.

Contract Length

A transfer fee buys out the rest of a contract. With less than a year left, a club can lose the player for free, so the price drops sharply.

Playing Time

Key starters prove their level every week. Players who rarely play are harder to value and usually cheaper.

International Status

Senior caps, and especially being a key player for your country, raise a player’s profile and price.

Injury Record

Buyers pay less for players who miss a lot of matches, because of the risk of further time out.

Methodology

How The Estimate Is Calculated

A base value from ability, multiplied by eight factors.

Base value = €0.7M × e(ability − 60) ÷ 7.5
Estimate = base × age × potential × league × position × contract × playing time × international × injury
Range = 80% to 120% of the estimate

Why Real Transfer Fees Differ From Estimates

Any calculator can only see the player. Real deals also depend on the clubs and the moment:

  • Release clauses can fix a price well above or below the market value.
  • Buyer wealth and competition push fees up when several rich clubs want the same player.
  • Add-ons and instalments mean the headline fee may only be paid in full if targets are met.
  • Sell-on clauses give a former club a share of the next fee, which affects what a seller accepts.
  • Selling club finances can force a cheaper sale, while rich clubs can refuse to sell at all.
  • Deadline pressure often raises prices late in a transfer window.
  • Market inflation means fees tend to rise over time, so older records look smaller today.
Tips

How Players Increase Their Transfer Value

  • Earn regular starts, ideally as a key player.
  • Sign a longer contract so your club holds a stronger position.
  • Keep improving, because value rises fastest at the top level.
  • Break into the national team.
  • Stay fit with good recovery, strength work and sleep.
  • Move to a stronger league at the right moment.
  • Add goals and assists, which raise attacking players’ profiles.
  • Remember that value usually peaks before 27.
FAQ

Football Transfer Value Calculator FAQ

How Is A Footballer’s Transfer Value Calculated?

This calculator starts from a base value set by current ability, then multiplies it by age, potential, league, position, contract length, playing time, international status and injury record.

Is The Transfer Value Calculator Free?

Yes. It is completely free, needs no sign-up and works on phones, tablets and computers.

Is This An Official Market Value?

No. It is an educational estimate from GlobeHour’s own model. Real fees depend on negotiations, club finances and market conditions.

Why Does Contract Length Matter So Much?

A transfer fee pays a club to release a player from their contract. With less than a year left, the player can soon leave for free, so buyers will not pay much.

At What Age Is A Player Worth The Most?

In this model, value is highest from about 18 to 23, when players combine quality with many years of resale value ahead. It drops quickly after 30.

Why Do Premier League Players Cost More?

Premier League clubs earn more from TV deals than clubs in other leagues, so they can spend more, and players proven in that league are in high demand.

What Does Potential Do?

Potential adds value only for younger players. A 19-year-old with a big gap between ability and potential gains far more than a 25-year-old with the same gap.

What Is The Value Range?

The range runs from 80% to 120% of the midpoint estimate, because real deals rarely land on one exact number.

Can I Use This For Football Manager Or FC Career Mode?

Yes, as a guide. Use the in-game ability and potential on the same 40 to 99 scale, but remember that each game uses its own valuation rules.

Is My Information Saved?

Your inputs are saved only in your own browser so you can come back to them. Nothing is sent to GlobeHour.

Ready To Value A Player?

Nine factors, one clear estimate and a five-year outlook. It takes about a minute.
